Galvin Cello Quartet Plays Vivaldi and Piazzolla

This concert is made possible through the generous support of Patricia and Torre Peterson.

Composed of members from China, Brazil, South Korea, and the United States, the Galvin Cello Quartet burst onto the scene after capturing the Silver Medal at the 2021 Fischoff Competition and shortly after the Quartet won the 2022 Victor Elmaleh Competition. This Program explores empathy and diversity, further illustrating this phenomenon by gathering composers of different cultural backgrounds into one holistic evening. “Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout” by Gabriela Lena Frank, combines elements of the composer’s American, South American, and Asian heritage and is coupled with works ranging from samples of violin and voice repertoire of Stravinsky and Rossini to the foundations of cello of David Popper, illustrating the endless connections that form when cultures are integrated through musical harmony.
