Set in the stunning Rosecliff Mansion, Newport Classical invites you to experience Handel’s legendary oratorio Messiah featuring Rhode Island’s distinguished vocal ensemble, Ensemble Altera, alongside the Professional Choristers of The Choir School of Newport County. This chamber version of the timeless classic, complete with the iconic Hallelujah Chorus, has become a cornerstone of Newport’s vibrant holiday celebrations. Whether you’re a seasoned classical music aficionado or experiencing Messiah for the first time, this event promises to be an unforgettable highlight of the season, celebrating the joy and spirit of the holidays with a bold reimagining of a beloved masterpiece.

The Choir School of Newport County
Founded in 2014, The Choir School of Newport County has earned a place as the area's premier children's choir, having trained and performed in England for two weeks in 2018, traveled to New York City and Washington, DC, performed at local and regional festivals in its home state including the 2021 Newport Folk Festival, and issued its first commercial recording last Christmas.
Ensemble Altera
Fast-rising Ensemble Altera was founded to be the beating heart of professional choral music in the United States. Led by internationally celebrated countertenor Christopher Lowrey, the group is dedicated to bringing thoughtful, engaging, and relevant programs to in-person and digital audiences at home and around the world.

Rosecliff Mansion was commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the concert.

No - this is a one-hour performance, without intermission.

We regret that there are no refunds or cancellations.

If you are unable to use your tickets, you may donate them to Newport Classical for resale up until 90 minutes prior to the performance. Once your donated tickets are received by the box office, a tax receipt will be mailed to you approximately four weeks after the performance date.

Subject to availability, if you are unable to attend a performance, you will be eligible for a complimentary exchange into a future performance in the same season. Exchanges may be requested up until 90 minutes before a concert, and ticket buyers will be asked to pay the difference in price should the replacement performance ticket price exceed that of the original ticket. Newport Classical's annual season runs from September through August of the following year.
