King Park

Picturesque King Park is a historic town park directly on the waterfront, overlooking Newport Harbor and offering spectacular views of Pell Bridge. Newport Classical concerts take place in the gazebo, and we recommend bringing lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy our relaxed, informal events in this location.

This spot was the landing site of General Rochambeau (and his army of 6,000 French soldiers) during the Revolutionary War. Rochambeau was a French nobleman and general whose army played a critical role in helping the United States defeat the British Army at Yorktown in 1781. The park currently features a statue honoring Rochambeau’s landing, erected in 1928 by the Newport Historical Society, as well as a beach, playground, dinghy dock, and a little league baseball field.

PARKING
No on-site parking available. We suggest patrons allow at least 20 minutes to find street parking, carpool, or rideshare to the event. July 4th is an extremely busy time in Newport, and residential and non-residential parking is strictly enforced.

ACCESSIBILITY
Fully wheelchair accessible. Accessible picnic tables. We recommend wearing flat shoes to this grassy park.
