Music Education and Engagement Initiative

Newport Classical is committed to ensuring equitable access to classical music on Aquidneck Island and the surrounding communities across Rhode Island. Our Education and Community Engagement programs are central to our mission and designed to reach the next generation of arts advocates, musicians, and music lovers.

Music Education and Engagement Initiative

At Newport Classical, our mission extends into Newport County classrooms. During the academic year, each of our Chamber Series guest artists pays a special visit to a local public school and leads a performance workshop.

Since launching in Fall 2021, our monthly Music Engagement Initiative has inspired over 1,000 students ranging from 3 to 12 years old. These workshops grant students interactive, playful encounters with a wide variety of musicians and their instruments. For many young people, it is a welcoming and fun first introduction to the world of classical music. For music students, it’s a unique opportunity to ask questions, engage with professional musicians, and deepen their love for the art form.  And for musicians, it’s a meaningful way to pay it forward.

BankNewport Community Concerts

As an integral part of the cultural fabric of our community, Newport Classical strives to connect people of all ages and backgrounds with uplifting experiences of live classical music. Every year, we bring free, open-air, classical music concerts to community-centered locations across Aquidneck Island, transforming underused green spaces into beautiful performance areas, and expanding our reach to more neighborhoods and families.

In 2022, we brought 9 free events directly to neighborhoods across Aquidneck Island, with fun, family-friendly outdoor concerts, inspiring masterclasses, and moderated panels with our world-class artists. By removing price and transportation as barriers, we reached over 1,500 patrons with our Community Concerts, of whom 40% were first-time Newport Classical concertgoers.
