Sarah Cahill: The Future is Female

Sarah Cahill, hailed as “a sterling pianist and an intrepid illuminator of the classical avant-garde” by The New York Times and “a brilliant and charismatic advocate for modern and contemporary composers” by Time Out New York, has commissioned and premiered over seventy compositions for solo piano. “The Future is Female” Piano Marathon centers on the piano literature featuring more than 70 compositions by women around the globe, from the Baroque to the present day, including new commissioned works. This four-hour marathon performance allows audience members to sit and listen for any length of time, with the ability to come and go, as well as the ability to walk around the space.


This concert is dedicated to Joan Sweeney and Jim Godbout in recognition of their generous support of Newport Classical.

Event Details

Newport Art Museum,the John N.A. Griswold House, was completed by architect Richard Morris Hunt in 1864 in American “Stick-Style” architecture. Since its founding in 1912, the museum has been a vibrant cultural establishment exhibiting superior visual arts, both historic and contemporary, with an emphasis on the rich heritage of the Newport region..

Parking and Accessibility Information:

The Newport Art Museum has on-site parking for a limited number of cars and encourages car-pooling for larger groups. Enter our south parking lot from Downing Street, which provides easy access to all Museum buildings and grounds. Ramps on the south side of the Griswold House and the north side of the Cushing Gallery Building are accessible via the south lot, and provide access to the Griswold Houses’ automatic doors.

Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the concert. However, please arrive early to find parking and allow time for ushers to check your vaccination status or negative test results.
